Correct use of pronouns

The correct translation of pronouns is equally important. Pronouns should follow the principles of being explicit, unambiguous, nearby, and in agreement. When pronouns violate the explicit principle, there is often a lack of antecedents; when the correspondence of pronouns is unclear, the antecedents will also be ambiguous.Such as “Since the purchase of grain is mostly entrusted to state companies , and grain traders are allowed to carry no more than 50 jin with them, their regulating role is restricted”. We don’t know “their” refer to “companies” or “traders”; when the distance between the antecedents and pronouns is too far, it will cause readers to misunderstand. Such as  “In the meantime, the U. S. government increased its aid to the KMT government . In March 1946 the United States successively organized army and navy advisory teams . On June 17 they signed the Sino-American Lend-Lease Agreement, which transferred 51. 7 million U. S. dollars' worth of military equipment to the KMT government”.; when the antecedents and pronouns do not match, it will also lead to misunderstandings. Because the expression of antecedents is lacking in Chinese, attention should be paid to what the pronouns refer to during translation, and repetition should be used when necessary.
