Reading this book by Jeremy Munday is very useful for anyone who wants to learn about translation studies.

First of all, it helps you quickly understand the discipline of translation studies. The book uses the "map of translation studies" to divide the discipline into "pure theoretical research" and "applied research", clarifying the scope, branches and core issues of the discipline. This way, you don't have to look for scattered materials everywhere.

Secondly, it covers a comprehensive range of translation theories. You can see the development process from the old debate of "word-for-word translation or sense-for-sense translation", to later theories related to linguistics, and then to translation theories related to culture. It also explains translation from different perspectives such as linguistics, culture and philosophy—for example, how to use grammatical knowledge to analyze translation and how to view translation from a cultural perspective.

Moreover, there are many practical examples in the book. These include texts in different languages and of different types, such as tourist brochures, the Bible, and Harry Potter. These examples let you see how theories are applied to actual translation. Each chapter also includes a table of key concepts and exercises, which help you master analytical methods.

In addition, the author has both an academic background and practical experience in translation, so the content is reliable and practical. Whether you are a student laying a foundation, a practitioner learning skills, or a researcher organizing theories, this book is suitable for you.
