Shiva and Parvati

Shiva and Parvati are one of the most important divine couples in Hinduism.

Shiva

Shiva is the god of destruction, transformation and rebirth. As one of the Trimurti, he represents the power that ends old cycles to allow new creation.
He lives on Mount Kailash, rides a bull named Nandi, and is known for his third eye, trident and deep meditation.

Parvati

Parvati, also called the Goddess Shakti, is Shiva’s eternal consort. She stands for love, fertility, female energy and protection.
She is the daughter of the Himalayan king. In her fierce forms, she appears as Durga or Kali to defeat evil forces.

Their Story

Parvati practiced long‑term penance in the mountains to win Shiva’s heart after his first wife Sati passed away.
After years of devotion, they married. Their children include Ganesha, the elephant‑headed god of wisdom, and Kartikeya, the god of war.

Symbolism

Together, they symbolize the balance between consciousness and energy, stillness and action, male and female principles. Their union shows how the universe exists through harmony of opposite forces.
