Ralph: a weak idealist

I think in this novel, Ralph is a symbol of democracy and the rule of law, as well as an idealist who wants to establish an organized society to survive on the island. However, Ralph lacked leadership skills and was very weak, which also made him unable to master the situation sufficiently. Finally, he lost all his allies and was chased by Jack. But he is also a symbol of civilization. He does not daub his face, maintains his true colors, cries loudly when he is finally rescued, and grieves for the darkness of human nature he has seen. Ralph is an idealistic light in the survival of a desert island, giving hope, but ultimately unable to defeat the brutal reality represented by Jack.
