Each time when I buy goods, I would unconsciously look for the QS mark on the package. But I am clear that I should never feel relieved. The recent scandal of Sanlu baby milk powder has again caused massive concerns about food quality. After Sanlu milk food was revealed to be contaminated with melamine, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) immediately conducted tests on other 109 firms producing baby milk powder. During this test, 22 companies including China diary giants Yili and Mengniu were found melamine in products.
Having heard of numerous reports of disqualified food, consumers become more cautious when choosing food. But troubles still go on. This time the direct victims are infants. Unlike adults, babies are physiologically immature. They mainly live on milk, and they cannot excrete the accumulative chemical, melamine, by the immature urinary system.
Not only the involved milk dealers have no conscience, but also producers do not strictly monitor the procedures. Meanwhile, the administration does not do their duty well. That means QS tests should never be ignored. Anyone who goes against people’s interests will pay a lot for his wrongdoings. Life is no joke. If every social member bears responsibility in mind, our society will be more beautiful.
