One of the characters that impressed me most in the book was Clara, who I felt was a very conflicted woman. On the one hand, she is a feminist, pursuing equality between men and women and freedom of marriage, but she would rather have a long-term separation with her estranged husband than divorce, because she cannot completely escape the restrictions of secular ideas. On the other hand, she appeared to be very lofty, unwilling to answer to men, high posture. However, she still threw away her identity as a married woman and Paul hooked up together, selling her body and Paul to maintain a lover relationship. From her, we can see the complexity of human emotions. Most of the time, it is difficult for us to keep completely rational, and it is almost impossible to have completely demarcated emotions. At these times, proper self-restraint is very important. Moreover, from her experience we can see that the relationship maintained by the body is cheap and not cherished, if we want to be respected in love, then we must first respect ourselves. |
