Mr.Gradgrind's situation interests me even more.He really didn't know that there were things besides facts in the world, even if they were in his heart. Some say he forced his daughter to marry Mr.Bounderby, who is 30 years older.I don't think. This was a normal thing at the time, about Dickens, and contemporaries, but this marriage, with nothing but family, was a very normal thing at that time.Let's assume, what if Louisa rejected the marriage?I'm not sure that Mr.Gradgrind will forcefully force her daughter to get married.I think he really loves his daughter. When Louisa finally asked him for help, he was really shocked."I cannot ouisa tell you, till now, how much I was excited by all that passed yesterday. What I had always supported me suddenly collapsed.Think of the current pressure you have to reveal these things, and then I get the conclusion that I can no longer believe in myself.”
This part actually touched me.In addition to the most true love for his children, what else can make a stubborn and rational person give up his values and world outlook for so many years? As a person who has firm values, I know how much courage and energy it takes to shake myself.I don't agree with him, but I understand him, even sympathize with him, and feel that he can eventually ignite his inner feelings.
