When confronted with disaster in all forms, life, which is even supported by science and technology of state-of-the-art, appears so vulnerable. It is very time when people begin to be aware that nothing is more precious than life.
On May 12, 2008, a remorseless earthquake mainly hit Sichuan province in China and then other regions and provinces more or less were influenced, which shocked
everyone, either ones involved in it or the others who seemed to be out of it. The focus of our nation, certainly, has been on the job of saving people’ lives in the areas stricken by earthquake, because, for human beings, life comes first.
In the Internet, I witness a lot of pictures, none of which cannot stir tears. The cruel disaster claimed ten thousands of lives, injured hundred thousands of people, what’ more, shadowed the whole of the Chinese people. In the area wiped by the quake, it is commonplace that the formerly happy home collapsed into the current ruins, in which numerous people were buried, totally or partly. Although it has made great effort to rescue them, the number of death is still increasing. And inevitably, it is the result proved to be adverse that most of people become homeless, a number of children losing their parents’ love lots of couples separated by the Death, some of their friends having no opportunity to renew their friendship together… All of these facts are stinging our eyes and piercing our hearts.
In addition to grieve, the quake has also calls for our pondering on and respecting life. We draw on the lesson life is comparably valuable but easy to lose. At any rate, we shouldn’t let them slip as possible as we can. Now come to Sichuan province, and here we spot no dispute any longer about money, fame, position and something we pursue typically, but only the confrontation of life and death. Here, there are three kinds of people, ones who are so unfortunate to have lost their lives, others who are still struggling for life and the rest who are resolved to help people trapped in the ruins escape from the hands of the Death. As matter of fact, the battle spread nationally and even internationally. The Premier Wen’s words are still ringing around my ears: we must try our best to save people trapped at any cost. This is not a commitment but a firm determination which is being put into rescuing practice. So our state has provided a lot of support in material, capital, and human resources to the region. And assistant wave forming by numerous non-government organizations, civil societies and individuals is constantly surging. Furthermore, we got some international assistance from some brotherly countries.
Earthquake, one of most murderous natural catastrophe might destroy every home and kill everyone; however, it doesn’t mean that human can do nothing. If we work together in unity, our lives will be tougher to combat it. Finally let’s pray for our brothers and sisters. |
