My Impressions of The Day After Tomorrow
Several days ago, I saw a movie—The Day After Tomorrow, which is about disasters and catastrophes. This movie takes a big-budget and special-effects-filled look at what the world would look like if the greenhouse effect and global warming continued at such levels that resulted in worldwide catastrophe and disaster, including multiple hurricanes, tornadoes, tidal waves, floods and the beginning of the next Ice Age.
At the center of the story is a paleoclimatologist, Professor Jack Hall, who tries to save the world from the effects of global warming, while trying to save his son, Sam, who was in New York city as part of a scholastic competition when the city was overwhelmed by the chilling beginnings of the new Ice Age. Jack advised the President to evacuate everybody in the southern states in the US to Mexico, because it was too late to evacuate the people in the northern states. In addition to all the other challenges Dr. Hall faces, he is going against the flow as humanity races south to warmer climes and he is nearly the only one going north. And the ending is that the world becomes peace and that there are survivals and that the US government realizes the truth.
This movie is quite stirring. I was also wondering what the characters would do before the catastrophe when I was watching the movie. I also deeply touched by their courage and there still exists the weakness of human nature. At the same time it also set a platform for us to think about our present world. We human beings have been destroying our environment at such levels that was out of our expectation. Now it’s our time to slow down our speed of economic development and start off movements of control of environmental pollution, movements of conservation of natural resources, movements of restriction of the negative effects of modern technology and the like.
If our world would be like this one day, we would be compelled to inspect our life seriously so that we could recognize whom we really care for and what we really value in our lives.
