Ontological metaphors, as discussed in this chapter, provide a way to view abstract entities as physical objects or substances. The container metaphor, where we view events, activities, and even our experiences as being inside a container, is a prime example. This helps us to define and make sense of the world around us in a more tangible way. Another aspect, personification, which is a type of ontological metaphor, allows us to understand non - human entities in terms of human characteristics. For example, when we say "the wind whispered through the trees," we are using personification to give the wind human - like qualities. This makes the wind more relatable and easier to understand in human terms.
