The second chapter further elaborated on the systematic nature of metaphorical concepts. It made me understand that our use of one concept to metaphorically represent another is not random but a structured process. The examples of how different metaphors for time, like "time is money," "time is a limited resource," and "time is a valuable commodity," form a coherent system based on sub - categorization were eye - opening. This implies that our entire understanding of a complex concept like time is metaphorically constructed in a systematic way. It also made me aware of how these metaphorical systems can influence our perception and behavior. For example, if we see time as money, we are more likely to be frugal with our time, just as we are with money. |
