Reading the first chapter of "Klara and the Sun" is like stepping into a future world that is both familiar and strange, and an ineffable feeling of curiosity about the new environment and a faint sense of unease pervade the mind.
The first chapter opens by taking us to Klara's scene - the shop. Klara, as an AF (Artificial Intelligence friend), quietly observes everything around her. The author, Kazuo Ishiguro, uses delicate brushstrokes to describe this technological but warm space, which makes the reader seem to see the neat display of AF and the people who come and go to choose "partners". This direct presentation of the future world setting, without much fodding and explanation, quickly grabbed my attention, and I couldn't wait to learn more about this world and Klara's story.
In this chapter Klara looks at the people and things around her with a simple and curious eye. Her careful observation of human behavior and the thinking process of trying to understand the meaning behind it make people feel that although she is an AF, she has a rich inner world. For example, her description of the sunshine outside the window, that kind of longing and yearning burst out on the paper, let me deeply understand her love for this world and desire to explore. This innocent perspective not only Narrows the distance between the reader and Klara, but also makes us look forward to her future experiences.
The first chapter also conveys a subtle sense of loneliness mixed with warmth. Klara is in the store, surrounded by many of her own kind, but she still seems a little lonely, she yearns to be chosen, yearns to have her own "friends." This loneliness makes people feel pity, and her vision of a better life in the future brings a touch of warmth. This interweaving of complex emotions makes the whole story more three-dimensional, but also makes me deeply concerned about Klara's fate.
