What is the real meaning of happiness? Is that the joy when a child gets a new doll? Is that the crazy feeling about being admitted to a famous university for a high school student? Or is that the satisfaction when workers receive their wages on the ends of every month. I think these all are happiness if people think these are.
It is said “Everyone gains happiness as little as others.” Conventionally speaking, happiness is always far away from people. Why? Better things keep on occurring, so people keep on admiring and pursuing them enthusiastically, never having time to think over what is the real meaning of happiness. I will lay you ten to one that none of them would seize the real happiness all their lives. Of course I may bet, but according to the law of Average, I will not.
Here I have a tale. Two men are fishing, and one asks the other, ”Why are busy making money, though tired of it and bored often, but never satisfied.” “I will be satisfied when I have earned enough money to enjoy my life.” “What life?” “Oh, I have dreamed of it thousands times. It’s a perfect life without busy work or high pressure. I can imagine how happy I am then. I will take my fish tackle and sit on the bank with my friends in the warm sunshine. The man listening bursts into laughing, ’Isn’t the very thing we are doing now?’”
Many people are not happy only because they ignore the happiness in hand. Everyone is some kind of pioneers in certain areas, then so why bother thinking of whether one can bear comparison with others all the times?
It is not a ling journey from depression to happiness. Let’s bid farewell to the earnest thought about what we would have in the future, and be sure that we have the great happiness in hand. |
