Ironical property

John Galsworthy, of whose age the writers would prefer to exploit the inner world of mankind, placed his concentration on the exploration of outer world. And born into an upper-middle class family though he was, he held a satirical attitude towards the hierarchical life. These two conspicuous features of him impress me most. Even though he put into great efforts to depict the extravagant life and materialized aspects, I still believe it is the pursuit of pure humanity that shapes literature into what it truly is. The Dream of Red Mansion taken as an example, we can find the portraits of prosperity everywhere. While, the greatest implication it has on readers or what makes it fulfilled is the lessons within and the tragedies that readers mourn for. In John’s works, his attempts could be concluded into recording the factual historical background and mock some human characteristics which would transmit anything one possesses into dust.
Saga is in my perception a most ideal genre for a writer to illustrate his stances and his reflections of one objection. Because the relevant stories trace across generations from grandparents to offspring, readers are more easily convinced that there would be a spell transferred within, so that the theme that a writer works on might be reasonably conveyed by the family members regardless of chronological impacts. With rough consideration, I think the common characteristics shared by the positive characters could be benevolence. Benevolence appeared as a love for oneself when Irene leaves Soames, benevolence emerged as generosity when old Jolyon leaves Irene money, and benevolence shows up as bravery and individualism when young Jolyon and Irene get engaged. Soames’ failure is due to his tremendous oppression on his marriage, which is only part of his life. And marriage only appears to be more precious when two respective sides could share equality. His inner poverty is based on his outer wealth, and if we further delve, he must have been disappointed and worried about his life. Therefore, to some extent he’s never been rich before. And the real richness occurs when one could tell from more significant things and less significant ones.
The spell on the family could be found when Jon, the son of Irene, was torn between the past and his present love for Fleur. As the logic of the novel, Jon’s performance is due to his parents’ past experiences. While concerning the novelistic creation, Jon’s close to the shadow of his parents. He run away, with his love broken.
This story’s fundamental atmosphere is a critical ideology of life which makes it doomed to tomb. It seems that Soames manipulates and organizes his family in accord with that of financial cases. He decorates his house and builds a new one for his wife. If based on a capitalist point of view, he would be able to announce his ownership. However, human trifles are more than complicated because of the interference of humans. There are numerous things of which the ending we can’t predict. And life is not a formular thing which could be determined by calculation. That’s absurd. And Irene makes a mistake, too, because she marries the man whom she doesn’t love but owns money. This looks like modern society problems which we are familiar with. From then on the family begins to make correct choices but on an existing deviant path. All in all, these are all writing creations.
