where there is a will, there is a way

There is an old saying “where there is a will, there is a way”, which means that if you are really determined to do something, however difficult it might be, you will eventually find a way of doing it and achieving your goal. This is the case not only in our studies but also in all walks of life.
I fully agree with the proverb and its implication. In my mind, it can be justified in three respects. First, where there is faith, there is hope. With strong will we’ll be able to hew out a stone of hope from the mountain of despair. Let’s take a mother in the Wenchuan earthquake as an example. The young woman buried beneath debris looked as if her performing an ancient ritual. The palms of her hands were placed flat on the ground and she was bent over. A rescuer cried out to her, but there was no reply. The rescue team was about to move on and look for more survivors, when the team captain returned to have one more look. He found a baby under her body. "A baby is still alive!" he said. The three- or four-month-old baby was wrapped in a quilt. Uninjured, the baby was sleeping quietly. His sweet, chubby face brought some comfort to those around him at the disaster site. Holding the baby up, a mobile phone was revealed. On the phone's screen, a text message read: "Dear baby, if you survive, please remember that I love you forever ".How attic faith the great mother has! Her strong willpower brought hopes to her baby.
Another good case in point is from Deng Yaping. The biggest obstacle in Deng Yaping's table tennis career was not her opponents, but her height. When she was 9 years old she won a provincial junior championship but was denied a place on the provincial team because she was too short. In 1988, when she was 13 years old, Deng won the national championship, but was refused a spot on the national team because she was too short. But she once said the old adage rings true in that 'quitters never win, and winners never quit'. Nothing worth having, doing, or accomplishing comes pre-packaged with foolproof steps that guarantee success. Her willpower makes her never give up. The national coaching staff finally gave in and, in 1989, Deng, still only 16 years old, teamed with Qiao Hong to win the women's doubles victories at the world championships. In 1991, by which time she had topped out at 1.49 meters tall, Deng defeated Li Bun-hui of North Korea to win the singles world championship.
Second, As long as there is light at the moon, as long as there is will in the hope that this can last until dawn, and then to see the sunshine. When it comes to the superstar, Jay Chou, it’s the case. Jay Chou was born in a small town in Taiwan on January 18, 1979. He grew up in a single-parent family. Jay has always been shy and quiet, even as a child. He did not do well in school, and his mother often worried about his future. As a small child, he showed a special sensitivity towards music. His mother enrolled Jay in piano lessons when he was three years old. Jay practiced piano beautifully, and by the time he reached high school, he could improvise with many songs. At the very beginning, Jay lost his initial competition. However, he did not quite despondingly give up, but positively work in this studio and waiting for another chance. Finally, Jacky Wu discovered that Jay had a musical talent after seeing his composition. Jacky hired Jay to write songs for various artists. Shortly after, Jay moved into a studio in Alfa music to create songs for various pop singers. It wasn't until years later that Jay himself became a singer. In 2000, it was decided that Jay should be given his chance to produce an album of his own in condition that he can produce enough high quality songs during limited time. Jay did it! He released his first album Jay, which much to everyone’s surprise became an instant hit. It gained great attention among the international Chinese-speaking community (including Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, etc).
Judging from the examples given above, we may safely come to the conclusion that nothing is impossible to a willing heart. We can learn a lot from this proverb and put it into practice. So we should remember “Great hopes make great man”, “God helps those who help themselves”, and understand “All things are difficult before they are easy”, and then, the high determination can lead you to success.
