Led by beliefs
It is true that if we believe absurdities we shall commit atrocities and vice versa. Have you ever asked yourself what your belief is, and whether it is right or wrong? If you accidentally hit someone with your car, and it seems that the victim is in seriously danger, and nobody witted. If you sent him to the hospital, you will spend a lot of money to save him, and even worse, he will die and you may be put into prison. What will you do, drive away or get off your car? Actually, when you make your choice, you are led by your belief which is what seems more important to you and what you want, your money or your responsibility?Your choice or your action is led by your beliefs.
People prefer the ideas which is benefit their interests. If your belief is that your money or your material thing is more important than this people’s life, you will choose the former.
Beliefs are very important. In different periods in history, beliefs vary a lot and play a decisive role in a certain time. In feudal society, the Pope was the authority and people offending the pope should be executed. No one would show disrespect to him because people believed christen and they were afraid of the punishment from god, thus the authorities and the ruling classes having the power bullying the people. What if the people in that period did not believe god anymore? People in great anguish might protest the governors and fight for their own rights, and the governors would not dare to bully the ordinary people.
Since people’s beliefs have such a big power, People need right beliefs to avoid atrocities. What I call right beliefs are these fit in moral value. Thieves steal because they lack the respect to other’s possessions, which is wrong according average moral value. If the right moral value and standard becomes people’s belief, it is hard to obey it and do something wrong.
