Everyone is a prisoner of his own experiences

I don’t deny that experience will teach us a lot and play a significant role in our life. A wise man must be somebody who holds extensive experiences. However, we can’t announce that the man who holds extensive experiences must be a wise man. Most of time, we are restrained by our own experience inevitably. Just as Edward R. Murrow said----Everyone is a prisoner of his own experience.
Have you heard of the story of the frog that lived in a shallow well? When I firstly heard this story as a child, I thought this frog was stupid, it just saw the sky over its head, and then use its shallow experience to judge the broad of sky. However, as growing up and increasing of life experiences, I find I also become this frog in many circumstances.
Last summer, I went to the swimming pool to swim. I didn’t see the notice board which warned: the deep end. Looking at it, I regarded the water was very shallow. So I jumped into it. The pity result was I nearly drown in such deep water. I simply use my experiences to measure the depth of the water, in verse, I was cheated by it.
In fact, if a man is lost in his own experience, he can not break though himself and even troubles himself. The same thing is true of one country.
Do you remember socialism carried out in Soviet unions? In our common experience we deemed that the socialism means abolish the private ownership, so they developed socialism by ruling that everything belonged to the country. However, they ignore the practical situation and economic foundation in their own country. At last, they failed. And our China also made this mistake which we called “empiricism”. Reflecting this event, we can see one country and one nationality may go to the wrong way if they are constrained by their fixed experiences.
Whether the individual or the country, sometimes we will drop into the well and behave like a frog. Edward R. Murrow pointed this fact sharply and enlightened us. But we are not frogs after all, so we struggle to break this jail. How to jump from the prisons of the experience? As a person who is often trapped by it, I can not give profound views. But there is no doubt that if we want to be over one thing, firstly we need to know about it deeply. The same situation is that if we don’t want to be restricted by our own experiences, we should accumulate enough experiences. And then it is possible for us to stand in a high place to contemplate our questions and to be the holder rather than the prisoner of our own experiences.
