Some people hold the view that knowing about the past cannot help them to make important decisions today, for the world today is significantly more complex than it was even in the relatively recent past. Now we humanbeings are in a world which is experiencing the time of political multiplicity, economic globalization and cultural diversity. Enormous new words, enormous new phenomenon and enormous new thoughts have made our lives colorful and exciting. On the contrary, the past seems simple and uncultured, because of its little population, loose connection and backward technology. People living in the history books don’t need to worry about weapons of mass destruction, and they don’t know about what the green barriers is. However, I still believe that history is of great importance for people, no matter what the time is.
We can say history is something faraway and mysterious, but no one can deny that history is the crystallization of people’s wisdom, which represents the development of human civilization. Although the world today has been more advanced, and we humanbeings are facing more complex problems, people can still get help from their ancestors. We can see pyramids show soundlessly the birth of Egyptian civilization and their highly-developed technique, the strategies in World WarⅡ still interest experts in different countries, and the legend that empires rise and fall always become the topic told by common people. There are different countries in the world, powers and weak states, but political leaders all believe there are not permanent friends, but permanent profits, which was raised in 1800s. Americans have ended the Civil War for 150 years, but American people still remember the address that they should establish a government of the people, by the people, for the people, which was made by Lincoln in 1863. These facts have taken place before we come to this world, while we can still acquire wisdom from them, and find similarities in the problems today, then give out our own decisions. Historians collect materials and write historical records in order to leave valuable references to the later generations, telling them about precious experience and lessons.
In a sense, history can be seen as a process of inheritance and development. It is based on the accumulation of history that we get so great achievements. Even though the world has changed quickly, history is still a indispensable instructor who help us make decisions.
