Topic:Universities should require every student to take a variety of courses outside the student's field of study.

A distinguished scholar is required not only proficient in his field but also in other areas, thus that universities require every student to take a variety of courses outside the student's field of study, to some extent, is beneficial to students, for instance, psychology------ everyone needs it to figure out when they are facing mental problems. Students should learn some economics, lest they be in trouble with economy issues in the future.
Admittedly, subjects are closely connected and no subject can exist independently. By exploring subjects outside their own major, students may find new academic fields where lie their real interest and potential gift, or they can draw support from other fields to further study on their own majors. Such as psychology is an integrated system in which the multiple disciplines correlate and complement. Sociology and linguistics sometimes assist doctors of tackling some patients’ problems. Thus students taking some courses that have connections with their own field of study is adversible.
However, students should be allowed to concentrate on their own majors. A variety of courses outside their field of study definitely take away much time and energy, giving rise to students unaccomplished in their own fields. If a student take a variety of courses outside his major, he may have a wide range of knowledge but he is not skillful in his field. Such students are doomed to fail when competing with others in job hunting. Consequently, for the sake of students, Universities should not require every student to take a variety of courses outside the student's field of study.
what’ s more importantly, those who trend to put much time and energy into their fields are much more likely to succeed than those who explore a variety of area of study on account of human beings’ limited life time and energy. Students should be encouraged to persevere at their own fields and overcome obstacles. Many great scientists have given us many positive examples, such as Marie Curie, a remarkable scientist who sacrificed all her life to science. In a word, students need to concentrate on their own filed of study.
Universities should respect students’ interest and aspiration. It is preferable that Universities should provide a variety of courses outside their major as well as inside their field of study and permit students select courses on the basis of their interest, aspiration and dreams.
