Education is one of the key words of our time. The educator and the educatee are becoming the ubiquity in the area of cultural transmission and continuing. Obviously, the attention payed to teaching and learning by all parties has been upsurging. Meanwhile, the best ways to teach and learn are sought all out, of which the former seems to be suggested to praise positive actions and ignore negative ones. But this idea has some misconception about the purpose as well as nature of teaching, and some ignorance of the process and consequences of this biased action. To be clearer and to some extent, the art of teaching could be compared to the culture of corporation. Seen in the term of the interior components, the educator is the director and the educatee the employee, though the payers are just contrary.
So much is certain: that positive actions deserve compliment, and compliment in its turn adds to more positive actions. In the corporation, after negotiating a contact to its favor or promoting the sales or discovering a new profitable commercial channel or the like, one is unlikely not to be noticed or promoted. No matter material award or spiritual encourage, the recipient is motivated to various degree. Naturally, he would retain and display with all of his strength. Of course, the same principle goes to the educatee through teaching. At last, in general, this type of bidirectional drive is of promising benefit and leads to great achievements------seemingly the direction and purpose of modern teaching.
To individuals, one positive action maybe means one success while negative failure. Orison Swett Marden once put that many a man has finally succeeded only because he has failed after repeated efforts. If he had never met defeat he would never have known any great victory. Thus, it is not difficult to get the deduction that the way of ignoring negative actions is in the way of more true success. In practice, all those great men and splendid achievements stored the experiences of so called negative actions. Moreover, it is exactly that these actions wrote down the shining glorious history. Ignorance, especially of the negatives, tends to blindness and dangers. The initiative of seeking success from failure is been killed. Everyone says the same thing accepted as right, creativity is losing its way.
In the high mountain of education, some people has stood at the summit while some are lingering around the hillside, with some others are still on the way to the mountain. One cannot really tell who is the final people who has the capacity of picking the harvest fruit. It is believable that he who laughs at last laughs best. So from the beginning of this journey, any trivial success, or better to say any positive actions, are the footsteps; however, those negative actions are the springboards. The best way to teach is to praise positive actions and ignore negative ones. Is that to say cherishing footsteps and giving up springboards?
