What A Colorful World~
如果有一天，世界上只有黑与白两种颜色，会不会太单调了呢? 我们应该高兴，我们生活在一个多彩斑斓的世界里。所以，有人问我，最喜欢哪种颜色时，我总觉得为难，因为每种颜色都很美丽。好了，我们今天就来介绍一下有关颜色的英语短语。首先，说说红色red ：第一个词组：be in the red, which means that to owe money to your bank because you have spent more than you in your account. 其实，就指负债，亏空，财政赤字。赤——不就指红色吗？E.g. The company has plunged 37million dollars into the red; it’s in the red. 公司负债达3700万元。一定要有定冠词，不然be in red 指穿着红色的衣服，She is in red.
电视中，我们常看到有重要来宾，莅临指导，总是要铺红地毯，以示尊重。所以the red carpet treatment 就指隆重接待。E.g. I didn’t expect to be given the carpet treatment. 我可没想到会受到隆重接待。
Cent 是美分， 那么，red cent 是什么呢？E.g. I didn’t have a red cent for all my work.我做了那么多工作，可一分钱也没拿到。可见red cent 就指很少的钱。值得注意的是，这个词组要用在否定句中。
下面这个词非常有意思，red-eye 。很自然地想到是红眼的意思，但它还有另一个意思就是夜间航班。不知，你们夜晚是否看见过飞机飞过，机头处总是红色的，一闪一闪， 大概就是由此而来的吧。E.g. We took the red-eye to Boston.我们乘坐夜间航班抵达波士顿。
汉语当中的“红”：红糖brown sugar；红茶black tea；红榜honour roll；红豆love pea ；红运good luck 红利dividend(a part of a company's profit that is divided among the people with shares in the company)；a red battle血战；red tape官僚作风（official rules that seem unnecessary and prevent things from being done quickly and easily)；red sky 彩霞（早霞不出门，晚霞行千里：red sky at night, shepherd’s delight；red sky in the morning, shepherd’s warning.）Become red-faced/turn red 脸红，不好意思，难为情；see red 大发脾气：to become very angry
那么，接着我们说说绿色Green ： The maxim（a well-known phrase or saying, especially one that gives a rule for sensible behavior） was that when a married couple saw red lawyers saw green.（在美国钞票是绿色的，所以绿色代表钱财或有经济实力的）俗话说，夫妇吵得面红耳赤之时，便是律师招财进宝之日。
绿色还可以表示没有经验，green hand 就指新手，新人。Green thumb 绿色的大拇指，其实指花匠。Tom is an excellent green thumb; he always takes good care of his flowers in the garden. 汤姆是个优秀的花匠，他总能把花园里的花料理的很好。知识浅薄green handgreenhorn(someone who lacks experience of something), a green old age表示幸福的晚年，精神矍铄的老年, 而汉语当中的绿仅有戴绿帽子之说 to be a cuckold(an insulting word for a man whose wife has been having sex with another man)
值得注意的是，红眼病green-eyed ， 红眼病（医学）pink eyes
然后再看看白色吧，白色代表纯洁。所谓无伤害的谎言就是white lie . Though you’ve told a white lie, but lie is a lie. 尽管你说的谎没有恶意，但谎言就是谎言。the white coffee牛奶咖啡, white rage 震怒, white night 不眠之夜
与白相对就是黑了，还记得有一首歌，其中一句：I’m the black sheep of the family. Black sheep 就指害群之马，败家子。黑色代表死色black tidings(old use：news) 噩耗，不幸的消息； The Black Friday凶险不祥的日子（耶稣在复活节前的星期五受难）；黑色还代表着气愤和恼怒：black in the face脸色铁青 , look black on sb.怒目而视,black dog 忧郁、不开心的人
；黑色还代表着庄重，威严和尊贵；black suit黑色西装，black dress黑色礼服.汉语当中的黑往往与邪恶有关：黑心evilmind, black leg , 骗子黑手 evil backstage manipulator, 黑幕inside story of a plot
蓝色：英汉当中的蓝色都可以指秋高气爽的天空色，给人以辽远，宁静的感觉。蓝色在英文当中的引申义比较多，可以指忧愁：in a blue mood, to have the blues, look blue, Holiday blue=winter holiday depression特指圣诞节来临，飞雪不停，人们被困在家里，感到孤寂；也指圣诞节来临前，因经济拮据而无力购买年货和礼物，显得寒碜而心情郁郁寡欢。blue Monday 倒霉的周一
颜色的翻译是多方面的，很难有定论，还许多总结多翻译，看如下例子:
Mr. Brown is a very white man. He was looking rather green the other day. He has been feeling blue lately. When I saw him he was in a brown study. I hope he’ll be in the pink again.
